Piano Care & Maintenance Guide
Cleaning the Keys
Keep your piano keys looking pristine by gently wiping them with warm water or a mild Ivory soap solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or excessive moisture, as they can damage the keys over time.
Cleaning the Cabinet
For a spotless cabinet, use a soft rag dampened with warm water to clean one section at a time. Immediately follow up with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove all moisture—each cleaned area should be wet for no longer than a minute.
When wiping down your piano, be extra cautious. Even the smallest speck of dust can cause scratches. Treat your piano like a luxury car—pianos with ebony high-gloss finishes are especially delicate and can be scratched with something as simple as a bathroom towel. Always use brand-new or impeccably clean cloths.
Polishing the Cabinet
To achieve a rich, glossy finish, use furniture paste wax or specialized piano polish. If you have an older upright or player piano, modern orange spray cleaner/polishes may work well.
⚠️ Never use conventional aerosol furniture polish on a piano! These products contain alcohol, which can cause a chemical reaction, leading to discoloration or even damage to the lacquer or varnish.
